Scholarly Interest:
Our laboratory
wishes to improve the health and quality of life for the domestic dog
(Canis familiaris) through increased understanding of genetics.
To this end, we are studying the genetics of canine hereditary diseases.
Our research concerns diseases of the kidney, pancreas, eye, skin, ear
and musculoskeleton. As part of these efforts, we are developing gene
therapy approaches for Alport Syndrome, a fatal renal disease of the
dog and human. We are also studying: cholesterol metabolism of the dog,
the genetics governing aging of the dog and using genomic and microRNA
analysis to address gene expression in the dog.
