Scholarly Interest:

Research in my laboratory focuses on studying molecular mechanisms of viral pathogenesis of avian influenza (AI) viruses. Using reverse genetics we can introduce specific mutations in the AI genome in other to study their role in virus pathogenesis as well as to determine gene function. Using genomic approaches we are looking at the host/virus interaction. In addition, using retrovirus expression systems we are investigating the molecular mechanisms associated with transformation by meq, the Marek's disease virus encoded oncogene. We are also working on the development of immunoassays for the early detection and rapid subtyping of AI viruses.
